We are firm believers in the power of teamwork. Our team has a broad, multidisciplinary range of analytical, academic backgrounds spanning technical, commercial and economic areas. By bringing our different perspectives together, we achieve so much more when faced with complex technical and strategic problems. We work in an environment where everyone is heard, irrespective of their level of experience.

As a new and growing company, we recognise that there are some areas we need to focus our efforts to continue improving the work environment for our employees.

Protecting our environment lies at the heart of what we do, and we keep it central to all aspects of our work. Our team are all driven by our own individual sustainability convictions and together, share the mindset that great things can happen when we work together.

What are we up to

We understand the importance of ensuring that a diverse and inclusive culture is embedded within our organisation at an early stage. 

We participated in company wide Active Bystander Training with Be What You See Consultancy in December 2024. Since then, we have formed an internal Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) steer co to help cultivate this culture moving forward. 

Recent steps include the inclusion of EDI literature in our Goal7 library, the optional addition of pronouns and phonetic pronunciations to our email signatures, and the rolling out of Ways of Working Passports, to give all employees the opportunity to share their preferred working and communication styles with their colleagues.

We hold monthly in person working sessions where our Aberdeenshire and Central Belt teams come together to collaborate on a range of client and internal projects. We organise socials every month alongside these to ensure our team can spend time with each other outside of the office environment. Building strong relationships within the team is a core part of our culture, and also assists with collaboration in our project work. Recently we tested the team’s cold water resilience while surfing in the North Sea and brought out their competitive sides at our Goal7 sports day. We also have more relaxing socials including pottery lessons and games nights!

At Goal7 we understand life isn’t all about work! We pride ourselves in having flexibility around time off while promoting a healthy work-life balance. We know at times work can be stressful and sometimes a break to refresh and recharge can make all the difference. We have a flexible hybrid working policy to enable our team to find a balance between in person collaboration with the team, and working from home that suits their personal requirements.

We have a generous employee benefits package which includes a health care plan for our team, with access to therapy and other mental health services alongside private medical care and optional annual health MOTs.

We also have some more bespoke green benefits, including extra green travel holiday allowance to enable employees to choose a low-carbon form of travel. Annual holiday purchase is also available, designed to give employees flexibility and opportunity to make sustainable choices in their own life, with Goal7’s support.

Our to do list

It's important we have robust policies in place to support our employees and provide clarity on our stance when it comes to important ways of working. Things like Display Screen Equipment (DSE) assessments may seem trivial, but ensuring an ergonomic and safe working environment is a key responsibility as an employer. These regular assessments are to be rolled out across the business to gain an understanding of our employees’ work environment both at home and in the office.

Where possible we prefer to have guiding principles to convey our messages but sometime a formal policy is unavoidable. There’s a whole suite of additional policies we plan to introduce such as health & safety and confidentiality, and as we grow this list is likely to expand too. We acknowledge that this will be an ever-evolving journey we’ll bring our employees on alongside us for years to come.

Our green benefits package is still in continuous development. We are proud of progress with our green holiday travel allowance, but still have many more ideas in the pipeline that we would like to roll out for our team. Continuous review of package for value of money (as employer and for employees).

When choosing an Aberdeenshire office space, we opted for a location that was easy to reach by public transport to ensure ease of access from a variety of locations. The downside of our current space is that it doesn’t accommodate all potential future employees and visitors as there is no lift or alternative access, other than stairs, to some of the rooms we occupy.  We have the option of accessible neighbouring community spaces, but a key criteria for future office space will be accessibility when the time comes for us to up-size. 

Our central belt team use a co-working office in central Glasgow, to work together, which was selected due to its sustainability ethos. As we continue to grow in this region, we will apply the same office selection criteria as we have in Inverurie to offer sustainability minded, flexible office space wherever we operate.
