Empowering communities for a sustainable future
We believe that sustainable development must involve local communities to build climate-resilient solutions with people and environment at the core. It is important for us that we integrate as much as possible with our local community, and that we share some of our knowledge for others to benefit from. We aim to support local business whenever we can and use our expertise to drive forward community led clean energy solutions in our own back garden!
We see our engagement and relationship with our community as a journey, and we will always aspire to do more.
Our Progress
Protecting our environment lies at the heart of what we do, and we keep it central to all aspects of our work. Our team are all driven by our own individual sustainability convictions and together, share the mindset that great things can happen when we work together.
What are we up to
As a small business, we understand the importance of supporting other local businesses and community organisations. That’s why when it comes to our activity days and meals out, we like to keep it local. We choose to hold our company meetings and events in local community spaces within walking distance of our office, and we use local catering for team lunches. This also helps us reduce our environmental footprint, after all, if its walking distance, why drive!
We don’t limit keeping it local to just activities and meetings, we use local businesses for HR and merchandise as well as our company lawyers and graphic designers.
Our Project Accelerated Clean Energy (PACE) was born from a desire to use our energy transition expertise to support and help accelerate community driven energy projects focused on making a positive impact and reducing emissions. We have committed to take on one PACE project each year, donating our time and expertise to run it exactly as we would a client project.
We are always on the look out for community organisations or initiatives looking for technical or strategic support, so please get in touch with us if you know of an opportunity that may fit this criteria!
We feel it is important to give back to our community, which is why we run company volunteering days for our employees. We have chosen to donate our time to important local sustainability causes, in line with our company values. In September 2023, we spent a day with Birse Community Trust helping to remove a non-native bamboo which was invading the bank of the Feugh, with negative impacts the biodiversity of this important salmon river.
In September 2024, we spent the day at Ury Riverside Park supporting the Aberdeenshire Council Ranger Service and Ury Riverside Park Group to maintain this community owned park right on our doorstep. We helped remove hundreds of tree guards which had been protecting trees planted around the park a few years ago. Our team are already thinking ahead to plan our next company volunteering day.
Our to do list
As a small but growing company, we are very quickly starting to outgrow our current Inverurie office space. If a relocation is on the cards it will remain a priority that we integrate ourselves into our local community, and continue to support local community organisations and small business.
PACE is a project born from great intentions. Unfortunately, progress has been slower on this than hoped. We have allocated a project manager to this to ensure it is receiving the focus it deserves. We are optimistic about delivering an impactful community project in 2025, and aim to provide more detail on the progress the project has made soon. We are always on the look-out for new opportunities to work with our community so let us know if you have any ideas!
